The Biosciences Division of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and the University of Veterinary Sciences (UVAS) Lahore on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for mutual co-operation in the animal sector, to promote scientific research, training and technology and strengthen the scientific infrastructure.

Vice-chancellor, UVAS Professor Dr Manzoor Ahmad and Member Biosciences PAEC, Dr Kausar A. Malik signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions. Giving details of the MoU, Professor Manzoor said the PAEC's institute of NIBGE and NIAB at Faisalabad and the UVAS would undertake a programme of scientific training, research and technical collaboration for exchanging ideas, skills and techniques on problems of mutual interest.

Initially, the co-operation would be made in the areas of exchange and training of scientific and technical personnel for research and development, joint scientific research and technological development programme in selected areas, holding of joint conferences, seminars, symposia and workshops at national and international levels.

The MoU will be effective for 10 years, unless terminated by any one of the parties by giving advance notice of six months. Both the parties are appointing liaison officers to hold periodic meetings to work out details of programme of co-operation and to monitor their implementation.

Professor Manzoor further said the UVAS is developing collaborations with national and international institutions for joint research and field work as well as for exchange of faculty and students.
